Some pics

Back from the beach and feeling good.  Not great yet, but every day is definitely better.  Thanks, all, for your continued thoughts and prayers and good wishes!  It all helps!

While I was gone my love finally placed the outdoor pieces I had been painting right before surgery intervened in my life.  I’m pleased with the placement although I thought he would’ve planted them in the woods.  They certainly catch your eye amidst all the dusty browns of our dry fall.

My new Critter has been sitting forlornly in the garage awaiting some plants and water. The hot tub duckies noticed and migrated!

Just a note to say Hi!

Not much going on here other than healing. Every day is a bit better in lots of little ways. Thanks so much for all the prayers, etc. – I know they are making a big difference in my recovery.

My fiber involvement has been limited to my diet and a bit of hand sewing and knitting. Just don’t have any powers of concentration to keep me on any one project for very long.  But I do have some ideas popping up and that is fun.

I keep looking at the Hollander beater.  Someday….soon….

Bit by Bit

Thank you, all, for your concern. Healing continues and little milestones are being reached (e.g. I could reach my toes to dry them after my shower today! and I have actually felt hungry a couple times now!)

I am weaning myself off the pain meds which is clearing the head which is leading me to thoughts of papermaking down the road and the current supply of fiber I have….. “Taking a dump” has aquired new meaning for me as I’ve become more personal with my refuse than ever before.

I know that horse shit has been successfully used for papermaking (lots of straw content in that I’m assuming). I wonder…….. has human refuse been used?  With a temporary colostomy, I have access like I’ve never quite before and lots of fiber is coming and going in me right now. Would this work? Would I really gross my love out with this? Hmmmmm………………..

Absence

Gin et al,

Thanks for worrying about me. Wish I was just busy watching pulp go round and round and round…

An emergency surgery snuck in on me early 8/27 and disrupted lots of plans. Life still continues – which is a very good thing! – and healing progress is being made, just slowly.

Not sure when I’ll be able to watch the pulp go round – unless someone wants to come and use my beater! Jack built this great table and I’ve been meaning to get a pic of it up, but that, along with a myriad of other things, will just have to wait.

Will keep you posted on progress, but don’t expect daily reports. The only thing I am promising to do daily is nap!

Ready to Beat

A rather mixed up week just went by.  It was a combination of seeing good friends and suffering through with a painful mouth – I am here to tell you that fractures in teeth are no fun! Between the emergency dental visits and meeting up with folks of all sorts, there wasn’t a whole lot of time for anything else.

I did manage to slip in a quick run-through with the Hollander beater, just to see how it works with the motor my love put on.  As with any machine, it has its quirks and it will take time to uncover them all.  I learned with this first effort that you can put in too much water.  Good lesson to learn early.

Along with the motor, my love added a timer, an on/off switch and a table on wheels so I can roll my baby where ever I need.  This is going to be fun!  Now, just a quick coat of paint on the surface of the table and I’ll be ready to get serious with pulp making.
